The LM340T5 is a robust 3-terminal positive voltage regulator, built as a monolithic unit and featuring internal current limiting, thermal shutdown, and safe-area compensation. These features render the device virtually indestructible. With proper heat sinking, it can supply more than 1.0A of output current. Primarily designed for fixed voltage regulation, the LM340T5 can also be adapted with a few extra components to provide adjustable output voltages and currents when used with external components.

Pin Configuration and Numbering
The LM340T5 is available in a TO-220 package, a widely used format for power regulators due to its excellent thermal performance and ease of mounting.
Pin Configuration
Pin No. Pin Name Function
1 Input Receives the unregulated input voltage
2 Ground Common ground for input and output
3 Output Provides the regulated 5V output
Functions of Each Pin
Input: The input pin receives the unregulated input voltage, which can range from 7V to 35V. This pin is typically connected to the power supply.
Ground: The ground pin serves as the common reference point for the input and output voltages. It should be connected to the system ground.
Output: The output pin delivers the regulated 5V output voltage. It is connected to the load requiring the stable voltage supply.
