The MAX7219/MAX7221 are small, serial input/output common-cathode display drivers that connect microprocessors (Ps) to bar-graph displays, 64 individual LED displays, or 7-segment numeric LED displays with up to 8 digits. A BCD code-B decoder, multiplex scan circuitry, segment and digit drivers, and an 8×8 static RAM that saves every digit are all included on the device. To set the segment current for all LEDs, just one external resistor is needed. The MAX7221 incorporates slewrate-limited segment drivers to lower EMI and is compatible with SPITM, QSPITM, and MICROWIRETM.
